Thornton Tomasetti Opens San Francisco Office
New Location is International Design and Engineering Firm's Third California Office
San Francisco, September 17, 2008 - Thornton Tomasetti, the international design and engineering firm, has opened an office in San Francisco headed by Principal John Abruzzo. Abruzzo, who has been with this firm for 14 years, was formerly in charge of Thornton Tomasetti's Philadelphia office.
The new office is the firm's third on the West Coast, adding to established operations in Los Angeles and Irvine.
"The San Francisco office will enable us to better serve existing and new clients working in Northern California," said Bob DeScenza, chief operating officer. "With his extensive experience in analysis and advanced analytics, John's expertise will play a key role in seismic and performance-based designs on the West Coast."
Thornton Tomasetti is providing structural engineering design for the Transbay Terminal, a major transport hub designed by Pelli Clarke Pelli Architects. Other work that the firm has performed in the area includes structural engineering of AT&T Park (then PacBell Park), the open-air home of the San Francisco Giants, façade design for the San Francisco State University Library, and structural engineering for the California Academy of Sciences.
